On
Sunday, July 9, 2000, the anti-porn group Omaha for Decency ran a
full page ad in the Omaha World Herald showing their support for the prosecution of Omaha
stores that sell porn. Omaha area clergy signed the ad. (A
copy of it is below. The bottom
half has been enlarged to make the tiny text easier to read.)
One of the pastors
who signed the Omaha for Decency ad was Bradley Hoefs. His name
is circled in the copy below. (Names are in alphabetical order by
last name.) Pastor Hoefs was cited by an undercover police
officer in May 1995 for exposing himself and masturbating next to a
parking lot at Lake Cunningham Park. (Omaha World Herald, 5/31/1995) Although Hoefs initially denied
this and appealed his conviction, he finally ended up pleading no
contest to the charge at his retrial. He was also forced
by his then church, King of Kings Lutheran, to resign as their
pastor, and became pastor at Community of Grace Church. (Omaha World
Herald, 5/23/1996) Even
though he initially denied it, Hoefs was obviously guilty, as he was
cited again in April 2002 by an undercover officer at Lake
Cunningham when he asked the officer to masturbate in public with
him. (Omaha World Herald, 5/2/2002) Pastor Hoefs thinks porn videos should be illegal, yet his
hobby is exposing himself and masturbating in public parks!
A small excerpt from the Omaha World Herald article about Pastor
Hoefs' indecent exposure charge is displayed beneath the Omaha for
Decency ad.
Update: Pastor Hoefs still likes to show how much of a hypocrite he is.
In early 2012, the Omaha City Council passed an
ordinance prohibiting discrimination in employment and public
accommodations based upon sexual orientation. Even though the ordinance
specifically exempts churches and religious organizations from
complying, a group of Omaha clergy calling themselves The Nebraska
Heritage Coalition still oppose this law altogether. This group of clergy ran a full page ad in the 2/26/2012 Omaha World Herald
entitled "Heritage Coalition Proclamation on Sexual Preference." The ad
declared homosexuality to be a sin and listed a bunch of local clergy as supporters. (The
group also set up a website with the ad's text and the list of
supporters at nebraskaheritagecoalition.org. Names are alphabetized by first name.) Although
their ad did not mention the ordinance, The Nebraska Heritage Coalition
stated in a letter to the city council that employers should be allowed to discriminate against gays if the employer believes
homosexuality to
be immoral. The ad also ran right before public hearings were to be held
on the ordinance. (Omaha World Herald, 1/18/2012, 3/5/2012, 3/14/2012)
Pastor Hoefs signed his name to the Nebraska Heritage Coalition ad just as he did with Omaha for Decency's anti-porn ad. So Hoefs crusades against both porn and gay rights even though he likes to masturbate in public. When Hoefs was cited for indecent exposure in the first incident, he masturbated right in front of two men at the park. It appears that Hoefs may be gay (or bisexual) himself. Pastor Hoefs still tries to be as hypocritical as possible!
